Ellen Cooney was born in 1952 in Clinton, Massachusetts. She is the author of seven novels. Her stories have been published widely in magazines and journals, including The New Yorker, The Literary Review, Glimmer Train, Fiction, and Ontario Review. She’s been a Fiction Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Massachusetts Artists Foundation, and taught creative writing in Cambridge and Boston for over twenty-five years, most recently as writer in residence in the writing program at MIT. Her work has been translated into Italian, Chinese, and Maranthi, and featured as a Book Sense Pick, a best of the month at Book of the Month, and the Borders Original Voices Series. She now lives in midcoast Maine.
